Match Report – Women’s (4 May)

4th May 2019

EASTERN SUBURBS ROOSTERS WOMEN

Women’s 7’s Saturday dawned bright and sunny for a great day of rugby 7’s. It was a nervous wait for the first Easts player, as at one stage, she was the sole representative. However, reinforcements soon arrived, and we had 5 players. Injuries have taken a toll this season, with Jugs, Chicken (Laura) and Jenna all out. Taroona were also short, so we agreed to help each other out.

Highlights included 2 tries by KT in the first half of one game, with one of the tries from the halfway line. Robyn scored in 2 separate games, and chased down a player, causing her to drop the ball over the try line. We had a successful line out, with Brianna showing that she may be new, but she is learning quickly. Katie Harper is a welcomed back to the team after other sporting commitments have kept her from playing last year. Ness has great enthusiasm and a joy for the game. We all tried hard and most importantly we had a great day of rugby.

The last game was especially fun. With help from Quins we played 6 on 6 against Taroona. Instead of tossing a coin, best handstand was awarded first kick, and after every try a handstand scored an extra point instead of the traditional kick thru the posts. KT showed us that age is no barrier to handstands, scoring us an extra point after one of her awesome tries! Go Easts.
